Ruhani Chhabra is a freshman at UC Berkeley. A writer since early childhood, she has dabbled in novels, short stories, poetry, screenplays, and journalism.

In 2022, Ruhani's essay "TSA and Cinnamon Buns" won 1st place out of 11,000 submissions for the New York Times Personal Narrative Contest.

She has also released two books, The Karris Family (2015) and Pieces by the Stars (2022).

Ruhani uses her pen to break down the issues that plague her gender, her skin color, and her culture. Menstrual huts that girls her age spend a part of their youth in, the word “rag” used as a description for the turban gracefully wrapped around her father’s head, legislation threatening her and millions of others—they are hard to fight. But writing brings her one step closer to the battlefield.

Look through this website for examples/videos of Ruhani's illuminating, powerful work.
